The Credit Union (also known as The Irish League of Credit Unions) operates throughout the north and south of Ireland. Credit Unions were first introduced to Ireland in the 1950′s in a bid to help working class people manage their finances.
Credit Unions are cooprtative financial institutions controlled by its members, they are responsible for managing their own affairs but overall responsibility lies with the Central Bank of Ireland.
